We had two teams in the Hainault 2-up Paul this year. Martin and son Jim did 1.0.55 in the Hainault 2-up 25. "I did a bit more on the front than Jim but I regarded that as an investment - next year he can tow me around" writes Paul!. Justin Browne and Graham Smith recorded 1.6.21. Winners were Neil Dowie and Gary Emposn (API Metrow) with 53.38
A personal best, the year's fastest and a new Vet's 40-50 record (by 1 second) for Paul Martin with a 22.21 in the ECCA event on the E2 for 11th place overall and 5th on handicap. The winner was Sam Barker (API Metrow) with 20.27.
Ever keen Paul Martin won the final club event of the year in convincing fashion with 23.46 in the warm conditions with a gentle breeze blowing the riders out to the turn at Stumps Cross. Second placed Julia secured her win in the Club Event Points Championship.

Julia did a 1.2.21 for 1st lady and 4th overall in the 32ns Association 25 despite an operation during the week on a tooth that required a general anaesthetic and antibiotics. Fastest was Mark Howard (Shaftesbury) in 57-05. Andy Ballentyne punctured.
Jim Lewis qualified for the Junior Championship with a 1.8.08 in the club 25. Fastest was Bruce Robinson (Shaftesbury CC) in 1.00.03
This was reduced to 9 miles due to road works and Julia did 21.51 for 1st lady. Fastest was Murat Ozdenya (PCA Ciclos Uno) in 19-34.
A warm night with just a gentle breeze meant fast conditions and it was a close tussle for 2nd place between Paul, Andy and Julia,
with Paul's faster 1st lap giving him the edge. Mark was the clear winner however in 23.05, despite flying back from a weeks holiday
in Canada the previous day.
The 15 points Paul gained for 2nd place means he is the winner of the Twilight Trophy

With the heat wave finally over, conditions were much cooler with a strong blustery wind. With a number of riders away it was left
to just two riders fight it out with Andy getting the better of Julia.
Mark was the big loser in the Twilight Trophy however, opting for a last minute holiday
instead of riding the 10 which would have made an uphill task for Paul in the final event - barring mechanicals etc. As it now stands,
Paul is almost certain to win - again barring any mishaps.

Julia rode the Norland Combine 25 in hot and windy conditions on a sporting course around Guilden Morden near Royston on the Cambs/Beds border. She did 1.2.34 for 1st lady and 7th overall. Fastest was Ross Clarke (Verulum) in 56.04.
Another hot and humid evening in the continuing heat wave. Paul produced another consistent ride in 23.57 to make the most of Mark's
mechanical trouble just after the start where his wheel pulled over twice. Mark ended up with a 24.06 with Andy 3rd in 24.23. Chris
Burley also decided to ride fixed this week and ended up with 25.12.
Paul stretches his lead in the Twilight Trophy but it will come down to a nail biting
finish.

Conditions were again hot and humid but the wind was in the wrong direction for the course and so a little bit slower than the previous week. Numbers were down and Paul made the most of Mark's absence to take back the lead in the Twilight Trophy with a 23.55. Andy was 2nd with 24.38 and Steve Freeman 3rd.

Conditions were not quite as hot as last week and with just a gentle breeze, quite fast. Mark has obviously recovered well from
the Ironman and stormed round in another new course PB of 22.53. Paul (and Graham) was recovering from La Marmotte but still recorded
24.03 and there was a close tussle for 3rd with Andy getting the better of Julia and Chris. Linda just missed out from going under 30 minutes
for the first time.
Mark now stretches his lead in the in the Twilight Trophy.

Conditions were hot and humid with a gentle breeze and so quite fast. With Mark and Paul both away, it was left to Andy, Chris and
Julia to battle it out for the win, with Chris edging it by 1 second from Andy, both doing their best times for the season so far.
Linda continues to improve and will be looking to go 'inside' for the first time shortly.
The overall positions in the Twilight Trophy remain unaltered although the gaps have
closed.

Our annual Interclub against the Chelmer CC resulted in an individual and a team win. Conditions were good and Mark Edmonds sped
round the course in 22.57 which was yet another course PB and 47 seconds quicker than Nick Green - the first Chelmer rider. Second claim
member Steve Freeman (first claim Chelmer) was 3rd.
Everyone else improved to their best times this year except for Paul Martin who had to stop to see to a broken spoke but was still 4th
overall.
Mark now takes the lead in the Twilight Trophy, although both Mark and Paul will miss
next weeks event as Mark is riding the Austrian Ironman and Paul is riding La Marmotte.

Paul Martin did a 58.52 in this event to go inside the hour for the first time.
Jim Lewis was 3rd overall in the London East qualifier for the GHS 10 and was 1st 13 year old with a new PB time of 25:19.
In the Senior event, Julia Freeman was the fastest lady with a 24.21. Overall winner of the event was Jason White in 21.43.
Conditions weren't looking promising for fast times with gale force winds, however they were in the best direction for the course and
certainly didn't slow Mark Edmonds down who recorded yet another course PB of 23.16 to leave him well clear of Andy Ballentyne who moved
up to second place this week using 90.6" fixed. Paul may have been feeling the effects of a hilly 100 mile Sportive around the Cotswolds
on Sunday, however that didn't slow down his son Jim who did the same ride and also recorded a course PB.
Mark is now just 2 points behind Paul in the Twilight Trophy.

Jim Miller did his first time trial of the year and recorded 1.09.34 although this included approx 30 secs where he went wrong at one
of the roundabouts.
Conditions were quite good except for the earlier torrential rain which main for wet and slippery roads.
Paul overcooked it on the first turn on the second lap and came off, leaving Mark as the clear winner with a new course PB of 23.25.

Conditions were almost perfect which made a change from the previous two weeks - and the time reflccted it. Mark Edmonds recorded a course PB of 23.37 and in the absence of Paul Martin (who was delayed at work), closed the gap in the Twilight Trophy. Julia got the better of Andy by 6 seconds and both turned the tables on Chris who was 4th this week.

Julia Freeman did an excellent 2.05.02 for 4th place overall in the sporting Maldon 50 to establish a new Vets 40-50 record. Fastest was Neil Chapman (MAD CC) and the only one inside 2 hours with a 1.58.38
Full ResultIt was another cool and blustery evening and there were a couople of close tussles between the riders. Mark Edmonds just got the better of PTT Andy Page by one second with a Paul Martin slower than usual - having done the Wessex 3 day Cyclo Sportive over the Bank Holiday. A little way back and it was a close run thing between Chris Burley, Julia Freeman and Andy Ballentyne.

Despite suffering from a bad back, former Champion Julia Freeman came 14th in the National 10 Mile Championship held at
Linton near Haverhill, in a time of 24.20. The conditions were very windy and for the later starters (Julia included) - very wet.
The winner, in an outstanding time for the conditions of 22.00 was Wendy Houvenhagel.
Second claim member Jim Lewis did another PB of 26.09 for second Under 14 boy.
Torrential rain early in the evening meant wet roads but that didn't stop a very close race between Mark and Paul with Mark just getting the better of Paul by 2 seconds after they both did the same time for the first lap. Jim Lewis recorded a new PB in 26.33

Traffic lights had sprung up overnight just before Newport so the 30 had to be changed to a 25 on the E1/25c which starts and finishes just north of Newport and turns at the Four Wentways. The wind was fairly light but the roads were very wet and it was raining for most of the race which probably contributed to teh two punctures suffered by Richard Jordan. Julia Freeman was the fastest Easterley rider with a respectible 1.2.51 ahead of Dave Spencer and Andy Ellis. The winner was Roger Bryant (Shaftesbury CC) in 59-40.

Including 3:36 late start
Conditions were a lot warmer than they have been of late but the strong winds made for some very old fashioned (even prehistoric!) times. Andy Ballentyne gained a little revenge on Dave Spencer from the Club Hilly but that was little comfort when compared with the 58.02 that Paul Smith knocked out. Full results

A very cold morning saw a hardy group of members stretching their legs for the first club event of the year which resulted in a win for for Paul Martin just over a minute clear of Ian Morgan who was using his training bike with mudguards! Ian however also lost a minute when he was unsure of the course and turned round shortly after the start believing he had gone wrong (he can navigate us from John O'Groats to Lands End but can't get round a 10 mile loop!!!). Julia was a three minutes behind Paul and Dave Spencer a further 5 seconds back.
