Sunday 5th August 2007 - E2/100

Mark Edmonds recorded an excellent 4.6.33 for 7th place overall and 4th handicap which perhaps goes a little way to making up for his disappointement in the Austrian Ironman. In a very even paced ride, he did 2.6.33 at the 50.5 mile check and followed that up with a second half 2.6.00.

With Jim and Paul in Holland (Jim riding the Junior Tour of Assen) and many others away on holiday, this left just 3 club members to face the time keeper on a warm and pleasant evening. Mark ran out the clear winner although Andy was closer to him than usual and Brian broke 34 minutes for the first time this year.

Club Evening 10 - Come Try It Event

Tuesday 3rd July - E14/10a

The weather was pretty near perfect for our Come Try It event that we reduced from our normal 2 laps (10 miles) to 1 lap, or 7.9 km to make it the same distance as the Tour de France prologue that a million people went to see on Saturday. The turn out was good with plenty of people to marshal and stuff to give away and Russell had made some delicious home-made carrot cake and brownies. Those that turned up seemed to enjoy themselves. Well done to them all. Three riders opted to do the usual 2 laps.

Cambridge CC 10

Saturday 2nd June 2007 - E2/10

Jim and Paul rode the Cambridge CC 10 Mile TT on the E2 with both improving their own club records. Paul did 22:05 for a new Vets 40-50 record but was disappointed not to do a 21, while Jim did 23:21 which was not bad considering he had only had an hours sleep the night before after a 'sleep over' at a friend's.

Conditions were warm with just a gentle breeze but not quite the 'float' conditions they appeared. With Mark away training in Majorca, Paul was well clear (although disappointed) with his 25.04, 23 seconds quicker than Andy who was making his first appearance in this year's 10 series. Chris got the better of Jim which looks to be developing in to a series long battle between them.

National 10 Mile Championship

Sunday 20th May - N1/10

Jim Lewis rode the national 10 on the N1/10 near Huntingdon and finished with a new PB with 23:56 for second U14, just 3 seconds off the winner's time. This also broke Steve Clark's long standing Juvenile record (set in 1971!) by 32 seconds.

To cap it all he then swapped bikes and headed for the Crawley Criteriums where he finished in second place again. In the U14 race a group of 5 established themselves at the front and Jim then attacked and got a reasonable gap which he maintained for quite a number of laps with his team mates blocking on the front. When he was caught there were more attacks but nothing stuck. In the final sprint Jim got 2nd being narrowly beaten by Jonathan Dibben.

Easterley Open Hilly 26

Sunday 1st April - E1/26

Congratulations to all of the prize winners - a clear cut winner, but good times. We had a record field and a crisp, bright morning, though tempered by Mrs. Howes's unfortunate accident near Broxted. We would like to thank those riders (P.Baldwin, S. Welton & S. Freeman) who stopped and gave her assistance, as well as the emergency services. We are pleased to hear she is now recovering at home and send our best wishes.

> I would like to thank the Timekeepers John Cottee and Lily Shakespeare, all our members who were Marshals and/or helped at the Event HQ and the routing team (Ron, Don, Bill and Jim) for putting up the signs the night before.

Hope to see you all again next year. Bring some clubmates and make a team!

Bernard Taylor,
Event Organiser

32nd Association 25

Sunday 25th March - E1/25b

Conditions were bright but deceptively hard with a stiff crosswind making conditions hard going. Chris Burley was the fastest of the Easterley riders in 1.8.27 ahead of Richard Jordan and Paul Allet to go to the top of the Club Events Points Competition.
Andy Ballentyne was due to ride but punctured before the start and to cap it all the spare tube also punctured leaving him with no choice but to ride back to the HQ on a flat.

Sunday 11th March - E14/28

Conditions were bright, sunny and unseasonably warm however a stiff breeze kept it from being a 'float' day - that is if you can have a 'float' day round the tough Hainault Hilly course. Andy Ballentyne recorded a 1.26.00 for 26= position althougth lost a little time with a broken shoe plate when it mattered - going over Theydon Mount / Toot Hill. The winner was Rafal Radziej (Team Economic Energy) in 1.10.22.

Club Hilly 20

Sunday 4th March - E17/20

With the wind in the right direction for the course (blowing you UP Toot Hill!) and conditions not as cold as it has been in previous years (albeit with a bit of rain on the second lap), times overall were a bit quicker than last year.
Paul and Justin showed what a bit of road racing at Hillingdon can do to improve that early season form, with Paul coming home the winner in 54:11.
