Hainault RC 2-up 25

Sunday 12th October - E1/25b

Early morning fog cleared to leave calm, sunny conditions - perfect weather for racing and a far cry from the previous week's attrocious weather. Andy Ballentyne was partnered by 2nd claim member Justin Browne and lead most of the way round to record a steady 1.3.27. The winners were Scott Povey & Barry Charlton (Shirley RC / Lyme Racing Club) in 52.47.

Lea Valley 25

Sunday 5th October - E1/25b

Conditions were grim with heavy rain and high winds deterring many riders from starting, including former multi BBAR winner Ian Cammish. Andy Ballentyne however started despite recovering from another cold and finished with a time of 1.4.58, which although not quick enough to get the 25 and Billroy trophies, does mean he goes into the lead in the Vets Championship. Fastest was Richard O'Rouke in an excellent 54.39.

Molly Swann Trophy 10

Saturday 20nd September 2008 - E1/10

Steve Freeman was the clear winner of the end of season 10 in memory of Molly Swann in a time of 23.44. Second was wife Julia ahead of Paul and Graham. Graham however wraps up the Club Events points competition.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 17th June - E14/10a

A headwind out to the first turn are the best conditions for the course and allowed Andy to record his second best time ever on the course, scraping inside 24 minutes for only the second time with a big improvement of the previous week. The closest battle this week was between Richard and Graham, with Graham edging it by 1 second. With Mark not riding as he was feeling a bit Tom, Andy has stretched his lead again in the Twilight Trophy.

Sunday 15th June - E1/25b

Dave Spencer and Graham Charlton were the only entrants for the re-scheduled March 25 (which was originally cancelled due to snow!). Dave was the quickest of the two in 1.7.37, beating Graham by exactly 2 minutes although he was held up by an accredited marshall stopping traffic in Newport for the Eagle Road Race! Fastest was the Shaftesbury's Ian Heather in 59.00.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 10th June - E14/10a

Warm dry conditions returned and meant quicker times for everyone. Mark was again the clear winner although Andy continues to close by a few seconds each week. He was also having a very close battle with Steve Freeman (who was taking it more seriously this week - using his TT bike instead of his road bike) - edging it by just one second! Further down, Graham Smith was having a tussle with Dave while Graham Charlton turned the tables on new member Justin Hunt this week. We also welcomed some new riders M.Fisher and Rachel Przybylski who may hopefull join the club in the near future? Andy still holds on to the lead in the Twilight Trophy.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 3rd June - E14/10a

Cold, wet and windy weather meant a lower turn out than usual and with Mark not riding, this allowed Andy to extend his lead again in the Twilight Trophy. Chris reversed last week's result to beat Graham; and Ade riding a road bike instead of his usual mountain bike knocked two minutes off.

Sunday 1st June - E21/50

Riding his first 50 in a number of years, Andy Ballentyne rode conservatively to record 2.8.20 for 10th place. The winner was Tristan Davenne in 1.58.54 ('fresh' from doing a 1.45 in the APi 50 the previous afternoon) and the only one inside 2 hours.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 27th May - E14/10a

The rain held off and conditions were fairly calm which meant improvements on the previous week. Mark was again the clear winner although Andy edged a little closer and still clings on to the lead in the Twilight Trophy - although only by two points now. Graham turned the tales on Chris this week and it looks to be developing into a close battle between those two.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 20th May - E14/10a

A colder evening meant times were a bit back from last week although there was still a good turnout. Mark Edmonds was again the clear winner although Andy narrowed the gap a little and still holds on to the lead in the Twilight Trophy. Behind there was a close tussle for 3rd place between Chris and Graham with Chris putting in a faster second lap to edge it by two seconds.

Club Evening 10

Tuesday 13th May - E14/10a

Conditions were breezy but warm and there was a bumper turn out for the second club 10 of the season. Mark Edmonds was the clear winner by a minute from Paul Martin, who would have been pushed close by Andy Ballentyne had he not lost 20 seconds when his wheel pulled over from his starting effort. There were othere close battles behind as Justin and Chris tied, Steve edged out Dave and S.Morgan, whilst Richard was just ahead of Graham. Andy retains the lead in Twilight Trophy but it's very early days yet and there is all to play for.

'Come Try It' 10

Tuesday 6th May - E14/10a

Conditions were almost perfect for the our 'Come Try It' 5 mile event - open to anyone who fancied having a go at racing and not just those who are members of clubs. We had one newcomer turn up (A.Aderishi) who turned in a respectable time considering he was riding a mountain bike, and most importantly he was still smiling at the end of it. We hope to see him again in the future.

Tuesday 29th April - E14/10a

Conditions were wet, cold and windy and so not condusive for fast times. Paul Martin warmed up but then thought better of it and so that left 6 riders to brave the conditions. Andy Ballentyne's time of 25.57 was fastest of the night and so takes an early lead in the Twilight Trophy

32nd Association 30

Although not too windy, conditions were foggy and a bit chilly. Steve Freeman got the better of Andy Ballentyne who were 2nd and 3rd respectively from the 32nd Association riders, although both Richard O'Rourke and Dave Beaman were quicker - Richard with an impressive 1.07. Easterley Open Hilly 25.2

Sunday 23rd March - E1/26

Congratulations to all of the prize winners - again a clear winner, but several good times recorded.
We had yet another record field and more than a bit of luck that the weather cleared up just in time! Didn’t fare so well on teams; perhaps next year that will improve.
I would like to thank the Timekeepers John Cottee and Lily Shakespeare, all our members who were Marshals and/or helped at the Event HQ and Ron for his sterling work putting up the signs.
Also all those who contributed to the air ambulance collection; over £30 was collected which the Club will double and forward to the Essex Air Ambulance.

Hope to see you all again next year. Bring some clubmates and make a full team!

Bernard Taylor,
Event Organiser
