Fastest Easterley rider was Andy Ballentyne with Julia Freeman coming out of semi retirement to take second spot with an excellent 25.36.

A warm evening with just a gentle breeze meant good racing conditions. Andy Ballentyne was again fastest of the Easterley riders but had to share top spot with Steve Freemnan who put in his customary fast second lap to come home with a 24.54. Paul Martin's son Jim was fastest on the night - beating his Dad 3/4s of a minute.

Tuesday 2nd June - E14/10a

A warm night with the winds eased from last week meant much better racing conditions with most improving. Andy, after a hectic journey home was in no position to take advantage however and died a bit on the second lap although still came home the fastest of the home riders. Richard still holds 2nd spot in the Twilight Trophy however Chris is closing in now that his hamstring injury is healing. Fastest on the night was Adam Norris.

Tuesday 26th May - E14/10a

Strong winds again but at least the morning's heavy rain had cleared and the roads were dry. Recovering from a cold, Andy Ballentyne also had a font wheel puncture just before the start and had to borrow a training wheel off Liam, and as a consequence went back nearly half a minute from last week, behind Doug Thompson (Gateway CC) who improved by a minute. Dave Spencer was forced to a stop by a fire engine, allowing Chris Burley to claim second spot.

Conditions were similar to last week except the wind was in the opposite direction. Andy Ballentyne was pushed hard by PTT Dave Francis (Gateway CC) and as a result went one second faster with a 24.59. Chris Burley punctured at the end of the first lap however to allow Richard Jordan to consolidate his second position in the Twilight Trophy.

The rain held off and strong winds kept the temperature down although this made for a fast start to the first turn each lap. Everyone improved on the previous event with Andy Ballentyne the fastest on the night but couldn't quite dip inside the 25 minute barrier. He has extended his early lead in the Twilight Trophy however.

A strong headwind out to the turn put a dampener on any fast times. Andy Ballentyne was fastest of the Easterley duo and second overall with a 1.18.57 on 92.6" fixed. Chris Burley was 7th overall with a 1.29.07 but with both Dave Spencer and Richard Jordan not starting due to colds, goes to the the top of the Club Events Points Championship, two points ahead of Andy.

Easterley Open Hilly 25.2

Sunday 5th April - E1/26

A smaller than usual field enjoyed sunny and dry conditions - if a little cold first thing - around the rolling Essex countryside around Thaxted and Debden.
Paul Smith (PCA Ciclos Uno) showed good early season form with only Michael Hutchinson having gone quicker on this course. His 58.55 put him nearly 3 minutes ahead of Ian Short (Hainault RC).
Fastest lady and therefore winner of the Maud Harrison trophy was Helen Boatman (Team Milton Keynes) - 3 minutes clear of a close tussle for 2nd Lady between Gwen Cook (Essex Roads) and Charlotte Hornett (Chelmer CC).
The Chelmer CC were out in force and predictably picked up the team award even though Anthony Stapleton was a DNS and John Golder punctured.

32nd Association 25

Sunday 22nd March - E1/25

Club Hilly 20

Sunday 1st March - E17/20

Dave put the fitness gained through winter cross country running to good use to give Andy a good battle on the first lap of the traditional season opener around the lumpy Toot Hill circuit and there was only 6 seconds in it at the start of the second lap. However the extra strength gained from steady commuting miles told in the end and with a second lap time only 6 seconds slower that than his first, Andy gradually overtook Dave just before the finish. Both Chris and Jonathon blew a bit on their second laps whereas Paul was quite consistent and ended up with a PB by a long way on this circuit - again attributing this to commuting.
